The Pathfinder Class is seen in the Web's Starship Miranda site and from the Star Trek Armada II game. I wanted to share this as I have enjoyed many interesting custom starships from this site. It is not complete. I still have many small details and decals to apply. The Pathfinder class consists of two Akira class resin Kits, one Sovereign class resin kit, one Prometheus resin kit and styrene parts from the Galaxy class kit. Using the Akira class kits, the struts and the torpedo turrets were inverted and glued together as-is. Only the saucer and nacelles were used from the Sovereign class kit. Wooden dowels were placed between the Akiras and the saucer, after which the excess space was filled with modelers clay. I don't recall what type it was but the clay did not shrink and dried overnight. The fill was mostly on the bottom of the model to create a secondary hull. The photos don't completely show the underside (because there is some work to be done). The only way I could get a navigational deflector was by using the lower 1/3 of the the Prometheus , cutting the nacelles off and gluing the result to the saucer bottom. The completed rough model was primed and painted with my special mixture of grey. There are super tiny metallic flakes in the paint that give the ship a metallic look up close. When finished, the decals will be a combination of Sovereign, and Akira decals which I will scan from the manufacturer's sheet and enhance. Image: Port side Image: Bow Image: From Armada II |
