Here's some photos of my recently completed Voyager model, from RealSpace Models. It's a multimedia kit, primarily resin with 1 vac formed part (the main antenna dish) and some metal rods for the booms, antennae, and whatnots. There's also 27 PE parts on 2 frets. The kit is in 1/24 scale, so it's pretty large. The yellow magnetometer boom is over 2 feet long! One of my photos shows it next to the Pioneer 10 model, also from RealSpace Models, in the same scale for comparison. This was a fairly difficult model to build, because of all the booms that stick out at all kinds of angles. It's not something a beginner would want to tackle. But, when completed it's a very fine model of these historic spacecraft which spent 2 decades exploring the outer solar system, and well worth the effort. The only modifications I made to the kit were using foil over most of the black parts to simulate the thermal blakets which cover most of the spacecraft, and I built the triangular "legs" from scratch, for added strength. I also built a set of spars on the RTG nuclear electric generator that supported the assembly in it's folded configuration during launch. I built the base out of maple, and had brass placards made which show the dates for the planetary encounters of Voyagers 1 & 2. This is the 2nd addition to my Planetary Fleet Collection, one which I will display with great pride! The kit can be purchased for $60.00 from RealSpace Models. RealSpace also sells a CD ROM of photos of Voyager for $10.00, and his catalog includes kits of the Pioneer 10 and Magellan unmanned space probes, all in the same scale. I highly recommend them all.
