USS Enterprise (TOS)

By Sven Ferron

Since I saw the first preview of the Polar Lights TOS Enterprise kit, I knew I had to have one. It took some time until this kit hit the shelf here in Germany, but it was worth the wait. I ordered three of these kits for the several versions you're able to build, and the first I've finished is the queen of all spaceships, the production version of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701.

The build up was straight forward - a little puttying and sanding for filling the gaps, else there's nothing special to say about it. The decals provided with this kit are excellent, the stickers are some nice extras for other projects. I drilled a hole for the rod that the model stands on in the secondary hull, just where normaly the round yellow part of the long decal for the bottom is placed. The rod has the same diameter as the round part of the decal and so I cut it down and left the yellow marking completely away.

I airbrushed the whole model with Revell grey satin matt #31374. The other colors I used are black, white and gunship grey for the nacelles so as transculent red for the bussard scoops and copper for the deflector. For the saucer I used a mixture of green and a shiny orange for the upper navigation lights and white for the bridge, the sensor dome and the small navigation lights on the underside of the saucer. All colors are from Revell. Placement of the decals was easy, and there were no problems applying them. I sealed the model with a clear glosscoat to protect the decals.
