USS Enterprise

By Billy Lehner

This 1:1400 scale Starcrafts resin model is an easy and accurate build. The main color was intentionally made a custom crème color so when I painted the windows white the windows would look brighter than the model. The saucer rim stripes were decals that were made from scratch. The hardest part about the model was doing the small mottling on the sides of the engineering section. I ended up sketching the area and cutting a paper template that was coated with repositionable adhesive. Then a quick airbrush of darker blue and the side was finished. It was touch and go and I really wouldn’t have been surprised if it didn’t work. It surprised me that both sides painted very well. I hate making stands but they are a necessary evil. But when I get done painting them the are eye-catchers and they do help make the model's looks. And I believe a stand is the only time you get to show off your creative skills. Yes, a model is really cut and dry, put it together and paint it the color scheme of the original. But painting a stand gives you the chance to be 100% creative. So this stand is my “blue-crocodile” paint stand. When the model was finished it came out very nice looking. It was fun to make and I look forward to making more Starcrafts models.
