Klingon D-14 |

This ship was built many moons ago, using 2 of the Klingon D-7's from the old 3-ship sets. I built it as a quick design study for a large scale version to be bulit using a pair of Motion Picture K'tinga kits. The large version will be fully lit, and have sound effects. I first cut off both Impulse deck/intercooler asemblies, then built the main hulls and cut them off center, just to the left/right of the boom attachment point. Then I joined them, filling the gaps with sheet plastic (I think I used an old "for sale" sign). I then split one of the impulse decks, widening it with more sheet plastic, and mounted it on top of the main hull. I left the other it's regular width and mounted it the bottom, and added both sets of intercoolers. I added one set of warp necelles on top of the mai hull, and cut the second set from their pylons, rotated them 90 degrees, and then re-attached them, mounting them in the traditional place. |
I then assembled the command pods and cut them off center, left/right, just as I had done with the main hull. Next I joined them using Testors filler on the gaps, and adding a bit of Brass tubing joining the booms just aft of the pods. I removed the bridge structures, sheeted over the hole and added new dual bridges and a control tower from spare parts from the junk box. I also used brass tubing to make the twin for and singlre aft torpedo tubes. some scored sheet plastic made up the shuttlebay door. The model was painted with Testors Gloss Gull gray, right out of the can, and all details done with Sharpie Markers. Total build time was around 40 hrs, most of it just fooling around with diffrent configurations and ideas. The pictures were done by placing the ship on my scanner bed.
