USS Temeraire |

After the Battle of Wolf 359, StarFleet had a surplus of two things: starship parts and engineers with ideas of what to do with those parts. The USS Temeraire is a one-off ship that utilized parts from Excelsior-class and Galaxy-class ships. It is a heavily armed cruiser, with two big torpedo launchers up front and not a lot of frills in the design. The ship was named after the Royal Navy's HMS Temeraire, which was built at Chatham in 1798 and distinguished herself at the Battle of Trafalgar, earning the name the "Fighting Temeraire." |
The saucer, lower engineering hull and warp nacelle pylons are modified pieces from an Excelsior kit. The warp nacelles are from an old Enterprise-D kit, but shortened and altered. The rear portion of the saucer (and upper rear portion of the primary hull is sheet plastic. The main navigational deflector trench is made from sheet plastic heat-formed over the cap of one of my wife's perfume bottles. The phaser strips are made from styrene half-round strips. Most everything else is scratchbuilt with sheet plastic, plastic strips and other bits and pieces. The ship was painted in various shades of gray, with decals used for virtually everything else. Inspired by the metallic shades on the NX-01, I discolored sheets of aluminum foil (by sticking them in boiling water with eggs) and applied metal-foil adhesive on the back and accented rings and panels on the saucer section with various shades of foil.
