Polar Lights' Enterprise

By Christopher Doll

This is the 1:1000 scale Polar Lights TOS Enterprise, built up as the series verison. This is a great kit to build, and it was genuinely a joy to paint and decal. Admittedly, this particular buildup will not be an award winner - I really wanted to get it done and on my desk at work. It is a straight-forward buildup, nothing too fancy.

I used Light Ghost Gray for the base color, as per instructions. To me the cool tones of this color work, but I feel that it is a bit too dark. Future build ups will be done with a custom-mixed color. Medium Gray and Intermediate Blue were used to tint the base color for the rest of the detailing. I diverged from the norm and painted the area behind the Navigational Deflector Euro 1 Gray - this looks better to me, even if it isn't accurate.

The Nacelle caps were first airbrushed from the inside with Tamiya Clear Orange. The outside was built up with Future and Flat Acryl, to diffuse it a bit. With the insert behind the cap painted bright white, the caps look pretty good overall.
