Space Battleship Yamato

By Kurt Ploszczyniec

I must say that the Bandai 1/500 Yamato model is a great kit. It goes together well, and as far as I can see, is quite accurate. As you can see I opted for a different colour scheme/theme. While I kept the traditional red anti-fouling paintwork, I opted for a dirty grey superstructure, and some tan/sand colour to bring out some detail. The tan colour is there to denote regimental recognition, as is the "white 3" on the "stack". I decided a model this large needed to have some hull numbering, thus the addition of "CS 07". These were left over decals from the AMT Original Enterprise kit. CS stands for Strike Cruiser. This model was masked and sprayed with varied shades of grey and black. After this, the red was sprayed over. And then, finally, I gave the whole thing a dirty light grey wash then, a little watery black here and there, followed by a going over with some "wet and dry" abrasive paper. The smaller detail decals were from the WAVE series of decals, purchased at Hobby Link Japan, who also provided the model proper. An easy model which at over 50cm long is large enough for the detail freak to go to town on. I figured I'd take the easy approach and I think it turned out well, which is not bad for an arm chair modeller like me.
