2005: the year of episode III. Why not build a Star Wars model? The nice turbolaser tower from Phoxim came in handy for doing that. I combined them with Micro Machine Y-Wings and Death Star surface panels (available from Phoxim, too) to a diorama from the Battle of Yavin. First I planned the layout, the turbolaser should be the main subject, the fighters should just add a bit of dynamics. Two of the surface panels had to be sawed into two halves to fit the wooden base, but this was no problem. The cast of the resin pieces was very clean, only a very little bit of sanding was needed. The assembly was very quick, too, so I could start with the primer. I used a light grey one, followed by a dark grey oil wash and a light grey (two tones) drybrushing. I didn`t alter the Micro Machines; only a new paintjob was given to them, also done with washing and drybrushing. The engine glow was done with flat white and transparent red. I mounted the Y-Wings with thin steel rods, two on the lasertower, one on the ground. The name of the dio is a play of words, the “Gold“ comes from the group designation of the Y-Wings in the battle of Yavin, and keep in mind that “Rush“ has several meanings.
