Darkstar |

This is the recently released 'Dark Star' vessel from the 1974 John Carpenter movie of the same name. I'm surprised this kit hasn't been popular before but it's here now thanks to Stargazer Models (UK). The build-up took approximately 14 hours (in between other things). Parts mastering is clean and accurate if a little sparse on detail in a few areas. However, this has more to do with the model's scale rather than a lack of effort on the part of the producer. Resin quaity is high with only a few bubbles here and there. The basic kit comprises two halves which need to be sanded down before they'll fit. Once glued together, a little work is required to fill and sand down the (minimal) gaps. The 'astrogator's' dome is included as is the notorious Bomb No.20! Automotive primer was used for the paintwork with a light wash to weather. The decals are good quality, if a little shiny. However, the sheen was minimised by the application of some 'Microsol' decal solution. Overall, a great litle kit (approx 9 inches/23cms long) - which shouldn't be too taxing on either time and skills for the average builder. More images and other models can be found here.
