TIE/Interceptor

by Daniel Holmes

Scale: 1/72

While waiting for another model's paint to dry, I decided to break out my Fine Molds TiE Interceptor. I planned on doing a full writeup of the build for SSM, complete with pictures of every step. The best laid plans...before I knew it, this thing was built! I hadn't planned on entering it into the contest, but it was finished just before the deadline. It was one of the easiest kits I've ever put together. The fit and finish of the pieces is fantastic! This buildup is box stock, I even used the kit canopy masks (I should have bought the vinyl masks, I had a little bleedthrough). The decals all laid down nicely and responded well to Micro Set. I had to use Micro Sol in two places where the decal was bigger than the raised bump it sat on, but they both snuggled down well. If you are a beginner, this is a great model to start with. With all the detail, it's great to practice washes and drybrushing on. Now, bring on the Falcon!

It's put together with Tamiya extra-thin cement and a little CA. Gunze Sangyo acrylics with an oil wash completed the finish. No putty or other fillers were needed. I didn't have time to finish the base, but it will be done in time for WonderFest 2005.
